OI Phoneme

Welcome to my first phonics video!

I am going to be looking at different phonemes (sounds) that you have learnt about in school. I will be activating your memory to help you and your parents at home. Each English class looks at different phonemes so I will have a selection throughout each week. I hope these will help you remember so that you can practise at home!

Why don't you and your family go on a oi hunt around your house? Let me know the words you find in the comments below! 👇

Phonics Help

Hi Everyone

This week I am starting some new phonics videos for you and your children. In the videos I will include some of the phonemes (sounds) and graphemes (letters we see written down) that your children have been learning about this term. I thought it might be useful to hear what they sound and look like so you can help your children with their reading.

Remember if you have any questions you can add them in the comments below or talk to your class teacher!

Keep safe

Thanks

Mrs Hall

Reading gives us a place to go!

Reading is such an amazing thing!

While we are in isolation or lockdown, we can pick up a book and dream of places without leaving our bedroom! In my book last night, I was transported to a mansion in the Cotswolds! It had a swimming pool, tennis court and massive garden to play in!

Where will you end up when you next pick up a book?

Reading also helps us with our writing!

The more we read, the better our writing is! This is because as we read we learn new vocabulary and then we can use these words in our writing to make it more interesting!

When you read this week, can you find three new words to try in your writing? Maybe you can tell me the words you learnt in the comments below!👇

In today's story I looked at the similarities (things that are the same) to Goldilocks and the three bears.

I wonder if there are any differences. I found two differences. The baddie was a girl in Goldilocks and in the Billy goat story the baddie is a troll. Another difference I found was that the main characters were goats in today's story where as the animals are bears in Goldilocks.

Can you find any more similarities and differences? Can you share with me in the comments below? 👇

PE 3

Today's PE activity is Connect 4 and it was made to help us remember that while we are at home we must stay active!

Remember with a prediction there is no right or wrong answer - so Grandma can explode in to one million pieces or fly up to the moon!!

What do you think will happen?

George had to look after his mean Grandma every Saturday and give her, her medicine at 11am. He was fed up of her nasty ways and he came up with a plan to make her a new medicine to make her nice! He put everything he could find in to a saucepan and boiled it up!

Who thinks they can write a better summary? Can you put it in the comments so I can see?👇

Diwali

It begins this year on Thursday 12th November but the main celebration will take place this Saturday (14th November)!

Listen to my story to learn how one family celebrates Diwali.

On Saturday night you might see fireworks in the sky all over Leeds as people celebrate even though they can't be with their families this year and many house windows will be lit up with diya lamps.

Important Vocabulary

Rangoli - a colourful design made on the floor out of rice, sand and flowers to welcome guests to your house

Diya - these are lamps made out of clay that will be placed all around the house to welcome in the Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth and wisdom)

Puja - this is a form of worship and is often done at home at a shrine where families gather together to pray

Tilak - this is a coloured spot often worn on the forehead
